Following a successful professional run off West End, at the Southwark Playhouse last summer, MYK Productions are proud and excited to be the first amateur company in the UK to have the rights to perform the fantastic Dogfight The Musical. Directed by Adam Lacey, under the Musical Direction of Jack Hopkins and with Choreography by Pippa Lacey and Anna Forster, Dogfight opens at Arena Theatre, Wolverhampton on 9 April.
After their critically acclaimed production of Jason Robert Brown’s 13 in 2013, MYK return to the Arena with the critically acclaimed Dogfight. Pasek and Paul’s musical adaptation of the 1991 film of the same name follows six young Marines on one final wild night of debauchery before their deployment to Vietnam. They hold a ‘dogfight’ – a Marine tradition where every man sets out to find the ugliest girl and bring her to a party. Everyone puts in money, and the man with the ugliest date wins the pot. But when Private Eddie Birdlace meets Rose, the unassuming and idealistic waitress he enlists to win this cruel bet, she rewrites the rules of the game and opens his eyes to what really matters in life. A touching story of love, loss and redemption, Dogfight is not to be missed. MYK was set up to give aspiring performers the opportunity to perform new, exciting musicals in the West Midlands before their inevitable rise through Drama Schools and into professional Musical Theatre. The cast for Dogfight features Birmingham Conservatoire students Cecily Redman and George Stuart, BOA student Aidan Cutler, Sacha Savory who is currently at London Tech Musical School and Lauren Key studied a Foundation at Arts Educational and has a place at LSMT in September 2015. Other cast members who are moving onto professional training in Musical Theatre include Maison Kelley who has a place at Arts Education Schools London, James Mateo Salt starts at London College Of Music and Amber Lloyd has a place at Urdang. The cast also features Alistair Smith, Frazer Shine and Lucy Follows. Joshua Dowen, who starred in the London premiere, is also a close friend of the company. He says: "After appearing in the European premiere of the show last year, I was over the moon to hear that MYK had secured the rights to perform the amateur premiere, the company that through Adam Lacey & Jack Hopkins gave me my first real leading role in an amateur show which was also at the Arena Theatre. The boys in the show are good friends of mine from back in the Midlands and to think that the 2nd UK production of this show, a show that's so close to my heart is going to be performed in my home town, by a group of friends is very special indeed, I'd like to wish everyone involved the best of luck. Knowing how talented the lads are and the creative talent Adam & Jack bring to each of their shows, it's going to be a great production."
