Jason Robert Brown's The Last Five Years plays for one night only at Blue Orange Theatre this week, followed by a small tour to Coventry and Kenilworth. Running from 25 – 28 May, the show will move to 2 other venues following its opening performance at the Blue Orange on 25 May.
The Last Five Years is an intimate portrayal of the five-year relationship between Jamie Wellerstein and Cathy Hiatt opens a window in to the lives of a young writer and his muse just as love captures them and then lets them go. Brown’s funny, poignant, and devastatingly honest two-person musical has enraptured audiences around the world with its spellbinding and emotional score and libretto. As the narrative unfolds, Cathy moves backward in time to the beginning of the relationship as Jamie moves toward the end; they meet only once, at their wedding. Presented by Night Project Theatre in a production that follows their sell out run of Sondheim's Sweeney Todd, The Last Five Years has a strong, contemporary score heard through a jazz piano and invites the audience to share the joys, thrills and tears of two young New Yorkers.
