2015 is set to be a landmark year for The Old Rep, as the theatre begins a new lease of life under Birmingham Ormiston Academy, following a tender process in 2014. The Old Rep’s 2015 programming reflects their new ethos: to be a theatre for young people, run by young people. From ballet, to live music, classic British theatre and stand-up comedy, The Old Rep has something to offer everyone.
Produced by the John Godber Company and Theatre Royal Wakefield, Bouncers will play at The Old Rep from 15 to 18 April. The cast features an array of Northern acting talent, including Adrian Hood (Brassed Off, The Syndicate), Frazer Hammill, Robert Hudson (Red Riding, The Bill) and Chris Hannon (Lunch Monkeys, Being Sold, Topsy & Tim). Set in a Pontefract nightclub, this award-winning play tells the story of a night out on the town with the boys, the girls, the cheesy DJ, the late night kebab man and the taxi home, all under the watchful eyes of the Bouncers. John Godber is a BAFTA award-winning playwright from Upton, West Yorkshire and is said to be the second most-performed playwright in Britain. Bouncers is a British classic, guaranteed to be a quick-fire, non-stop performance, which combines singing, dancing, mime and poetry. The performances at The Old Rep offer the chance to meet the Bouncers, as they will come out into the audience prior to each show for selfie opportunities.
