Seasonal Play Comes To Yardley22/4/2015 Award-winning theatre group, Union Theatre, will be performing a powerful version of Robert Bolt’s A Man for All Seasons at St Edburgha's Church in Yardley from 23 - 25 April.
Concentrating on the last seven years of Thomas More’s life, the play examines the struggle between Thomas and his King, Henry VIII. Henry is determined to break with Rome so he can divorce his current wife and wed again, while good Catholic More struggles with his inability to go along with such heresy. The play is even more poignant due to the direct links that Yardley and its church have with the story. The North Wall of the church is adorned with a carved door to celebrate the first wedding of Catherine of Aragon to Henry’s brother Prince Arthur. The door is beautifully carved and depicts the Pomegranate of Catherine of Aragon and the Tudor Rose. The parish of Yardley was also given to Catherine as part of her divorce settlement from Henry when their marriage ended. Director, John Seeley, said: "It is wonderful to be performing in a setting such as St Edburgha's but the links that the church has with the story make it all the more real and the cast are really getting into their various characters." The play is running from the 23 - 25 April at St Edburgha’s Church, Yardley and tickets are available by calling 0121 784 4067. For more information click here. Find Union Theatre on Facebook here.
