The Birmingham premiere of Dogfight opens at the Old Joint Stock Pub & Theatre tonight, presented by Old Joint Stock Musical Theatre Company. The show runs until 16 August and first premiered at Southwark Playhouse last year to rave reviews.
Dogfight is a story of war and loss, where love turns up in the ugliest of places. It's November, 1963 and a group of young marines, on their last night before being deployed to Vietnam, set out for one final wild night of debauchery in San Francisco. The evening's entertainment - a 'dogfight' - a tradition where each marine competes to find the ugliest woman they can. But when Corporal Eddie Birdlace meets Rose, an unassuming and idealistic waitress, the rules of the game are rewritten as he finds his prejudices changed forever by the power of compassion. The Old Joint Stock Musical Theatre Company have a raft of shows under their belt, last summer they performed the hit comedy Avenue Q, following an acclaimed production of The Last Five Years and sell-out run of Rent. The Old Joint Stock Musical Theatre Company champion big ideas for small spaces and create uniquely intimate musical experiences.
