Attend The Tale Of Sweeney Todd

24/3/2015

Tamworth Arts Club proudly present the musical thriller, Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street.

Set in 19th century London, the musical tells the story of the title character Sweeney Todd, who returns to London after 15 years' transportation on trumped-up charges, to take revenge on the judge who banished him. Sondheim's musical score is typically tricky but hugely entertaining, featuring memorable numbers including The Ballad of Sweeney Todd, Worst Pies in London and A Little Priest. The darkly funny and musically challenging show will be performed at the
Landau Forte Sixth Form Centre, Ashby Road, Tamworth from Tuesday 7 to Saturday 11 April.

Originally written by Stephen Sondheim in 1979, Sweeney Todd was performed on Broadway and in London's West End, winning the Tony Award for Best Musical and Olivier Award for Best New Musical. In 2007, it was adapted for the big screen by gothic-inspired director Tim Burton and featuring Helena Bonham-Carter and Johnny Depp.

Karen Wilkes, director, says:
“The show has stretched our talented cast and production team, with some truly awe-inspiring acting and singing in store for our audience. Although the principles get up to some rather gruesome antics, there is a lot of humour running throughout the show. We're having plenty of fun at rehearsals and that will come across in our performances.”
